Art Basel Miami: Beauty Best Bets
A rite of passage and a weekend par-tay getaway for many of my gal pals, Art Basel Miami kicks off its annual festivities Thursday, December 7. Ladies, we’ve got you covered on where to get glowing, as well as where to wind down when it’s all gotten to be too much.
Here’s my take: if you’re visiting from northern climes, why not take advantage of warm-weather pedicures, letting your tootsies dry in the air, smudge-free? A good pedi next week will take you through stiletto-bearing New Year’s Eve.
One-Stop Beauty Shop
One of content chief Dana’s first FBP posts was devoted to the chic Gee sisters — super-smart skincare specialists whose stunning salon Gee Beauty has a new Miami Beach location. (Pic below.) From innovative facials resulting in glowing skin to waxing, mani/pedis, makeup and so much more, this comprehensive haute spot books fast; we suggest scheduling your appointment before your trip. Because our fab FBPers are the best resource (hello, we love hearing from you!) I reached out to two I trust: good friends Lizette Hassell (who knows a thing or a million about fab Florida spas; as the marketing director at several Leading Hotels of the World before launching her hospitality consultancy, she’s been tasked with opening quite a few) and FBP's recent shelfie subject Renée Frigo Graeff also calls Miami home.
Relax + Say Spa-AAAHHHH
Are you tuckered out from all that teetering on 5” heels? Stressed from too many soirées? Maybe a massage is on your menu du jour. Lizette’s favorite destination includes The Standard Spa, Miami Beach, a hydrotherapy playground where a Turkish-inspired hamam and holistic massage treatments cure, calm and soothe. (305.673.1717)
Lizette and I are big fans of ESPA’s products (Detoxifying Salt Scrub is my fave - removing all the dry patches on my elbows and feet without sticky residue), so consider heading over to Acqualina Spa by ESPA on Collins Avenue where they’re incorporated into each treatment. Lizette loves their massage packages; they had me at Warm Caribbean Mist Shower, an amenity when booking any treatment. (305.918.8000)
Lizette is a long-time on-off (but currently on for the past three years) Miami resident and heads to the Lapis Spa at The Fontainebleau, swearing by Solangel Ribero to tend her tresses and deliver consistently great cuts and color. (305.674.4772)
Renée is devoted to her Coral Gables guru Luca Mencarini whose work is frequently featured in the editorial pages of Miami’s glossy magazines. (305.461.2443)
More Coral Gables
Lashes: Another Renée pro pick is Alexandra Brian at Sultry Eyes Lash Studio in Miami Beach. (305.535.6887)
Nails: Clean and fast (as we like to say at FBP, time is $ ladies), Coral Luxury Nail Bar is super efficient; they’ll work your shellac manicure concurrently with your pedi, and serve you a glass of bubbly to boot! (786.502.8669)
Facials: Lizette and I are also aligned on Clarins: Clarins Skin Spa at Nordstrom is a good bet if you're in need of a classic French facial. (786.999.1313)
